In ethnic minority areas, women and girls suffer from double inequality. Specifically, 74% of ethnic minority households have men in their names independently in terms of land ownership and credit, while this rate among Kinh people is only 41%.

The literacy rate for ethnic minority males aged 15 years and over is 86.3%, while that of females is only 73.4%. Under the age of 16, the ratio of married girls to boys is three to four times higher (685 boys and 2,306 girls).

In addition, if many male children in ethnic minority areas continue to attend school after marriage, most female children have to stay home to fulfill the "maternity" of women.

Ethnic minority women are not aware of their rights and the system to protect them against gender violence. Child marriage or forced marriage is still widely took place in ethnic minority areas, although those actions are banned in the Constitution, Gender Equality Law and Domestic Violence Prevention Law.

Many ethnic minority women do not benefit from judicial protections against gender inequality and discrimination, even though this is recognized in the Constitution, Gender Equality Law, Marriage and Family Law, Civil Law. The cause of the above is partly due to stereotypes and social behaviors that put women in a dependent position in the family. Men are considered the main host and decision maker, therefore women do not have equal opportunities to access resources and do not have a rightful place in the family and society.

Obviously, ethnic minority women and girls have been the vulnerable in the family, community and society. They are facing a lot of discrimination and suffering from double inequality both in terms of ethnicity and gender. Witnessing the injustice of a woman's right to happiness and their personal interests, Ladyly had been constantly trying to build, develop and protect the voice of women's rights.

In the near future, we would rekindle the idea of joining hands to build a maturity box for sex education and feminist knowledge for girls in the highlands. To do that, we set up a fundraising event for this charity.
